Story Behind the Art - The Ten Lepers 

Everything in the painting leads us to the single leper at the moment he truly grasps what has occurred.  The clothing on the mass of nine lepers serves multiple purposes. Their tattered wrappings suggest what was, until this moment, their illness. Their euphoric chaos not only contradicts the serenity of the lone leper, but also contains numerous directionals driving your eye to the right. 

There is no movement in the tenth leper. He is lighter than the others against the darker background. His clothes hang vertical and static. This peace is easier on our eye than chaos. Our eye rests there.  His fingers on his hands are spread wide in discovery, his eyes glance off the canvas towards the source of the miracle that has occurred. The message is clear - Take a moment from our fast-paced world to reflect and show gratitude for all you have to be thankful for.

Story Behind the Art - Mother to Mother

Perhaps our lives, in mortality can kind of reflect back and teach us about Heavenly Mother, the things that we experience as women, and our role here in this life. What we're taught about our mission and purpose here could possibly be a reflection of what Heavenly Mother's mission and purpose is.

I thought, "Well, birth, there can't be anything more exclusively a woman's role than birth." And so, I just figured if women were that involved in birth on this side of the veil, that Heavenly Mother must be very involved on the other side as well. And we know that our Heavenly Parents are intimately involved with everything.
