Lessons from the Miracles of Jesus: How to Strengthen Your Faith
Share
The miracles of Jesus are some of the most powerful and faith-building moments in all of scripture. From healing the sick to calming storms, these sacred events not only demonstrate the Savior’s divine power but also offer personal, timeless lessons for strengthening our faith today. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we can draw comfort, perspective, and guidance by studying these miracles - and applying their messages to our everyday lives.
What the Miracles of Jesus Teach About Trust and Timing
One of the first lessons we can learn from the miracles of Jesus is the importance of trusting in God’s timing. In the story of Lazarus (John 11), Jesus waits before coming to his friend’s aid. To some, it might seem like a delay - but to the Savior, it was the perfect opportunity to show that with God, even death is not the end.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland reminded us:
“Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don’t come until heaven. But for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come.”
(“An High Priest of Good Things to Come,” Oct. 1999)
As we wait on the Lord in our own trials, we can remember that He is never late. His power and love are always at work, even if we can’t see the miracle yet.
Faith Precedes the Miracle
In many stories, the miracles of Jesus followed a personal act of faith. The woman with the issue of blood, who touched His garment, believed before she was healed (Mark 5). The friends who lowered the paralyzed man through the roof acted boldly, trusting that Christ could heal.
President Russell M. Nelson taught:
“The Lord loves effort, because effort brings rewards that can’t come without it.”
When we show even a mustard seed of faith, the Lord meets us with power. Our efforts to believe, pray, and follow Him invite miracles - both seen and unseen.
Seeing the Savior Through His Miracles
The miracles of Jesus help us better understand His character. He didn't just feed the 5,000 to satisfy hunger - He did it to show His compassion. He didn’t calm the sea just to still the waves - but to still His disciples’ fears. Every miracle is a window into His love.
One of my favorite songs we sang in Primary was “Miracle.” I still think of it when I need to remember who Jesus really is. The words say:
“Jesus is the God of miracles;
Nothing is at all impossible to Him.
But I know this:
Of all His miracles, the most incredible must be
The miracle that rescues me.”
This beautiful message reminds us that the greatest miracle of all is His power to change our hearts, forgive our sins, and bring us back to Him.
Art can help us reflect on these sacred stories in personal, meaningful ways. At LDSArt.com, many artists seek to capture these moments of divine power and mercy - allowing us to bring those reminders into our homes. Whether it’s an image of Christ walking on water or healing the blind, these visuals can strengthen our daily walk with Him.
How to Apply the Miracles of Jesus in Your Life
Here are a few simple ways to apply these lessons:
-
Pray with faith. Ask for help, believing that He hears you. That He can work miracles among you.
-
Act in trust. Move forward, even when the outcome is uncertain.
-
Look for small miracles. Not all miracles are dramatic. Some come as peace, strength, or quiet reassurance.
-
Surround yourself with reminders. Faith-focused artwork, music, and scripture study help you stay spiritually grounded.
President Dallin H. Oaks once said:
“Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ prepares us for whatever life brings.”
As we reflect on the miracles of Jesus, may we find hope, courage, and a deeper trust in His divine hand in our lives.
