Layers are a theme in my work, which begins with a layer of altered National Geographic pages and builds through coats of ink, charcoal, and acrylic paint. I discovered this technique during a college assignment and fell in love with the way mixed media interacted with paper. Mixed media allow me to explore the vibrant hues, varying textures, and organic lines found in nature. I am an avid backpacker and love to immerse myself in the beauty found in the mountains. The symbols of nature and the formal elements of art become vehicles through which I can explore spiritual concepts, whether simple or complex. I showed interest and received support in art from a young age, filling sketchbooks starting at age 3 and publicly displaying my work by age 8.
I moved to Utah to earn a BFA in Studio Arts, with an emphasis in Painting, from Brigham Young University. I enjoy painting daily in my studio and actively participate in the local art scene, as well as national and international art competitions. My work has been widely published in several magazines, and I regularly seek opportunities to share it both online and in person.
I love the outdoors and spend much of my time hiking the Wasatch and High Uinta ranges, allowing my experiences in nature to inform my artwork. I also enjoy my role as the art specialist for Noah Webster Academy, where I teach over 500 students. My first art-teaching job was in the Dominican Republic, where I learned Spanish from the children I taught. I continue to use that skill in my teaching today, as many of my current students are from Central and South America and are learning English
