There are many types of darkness we face along our journey, loss of a loved one, the pain of family members leaving their faith, painful desperate fights against addictions, deep sorrow from sin and mistakes. No matter what darkness you carry he descended into the thick of it and is offering his nail-scarred hand to you and me. What an incredible blessing it is to have this knowledge. To know that Christ not only knows you, but he knows your flaws, he knows your brokenness, he knows your sin and your pain, he knows the pain you've caused others, he knows all of your darkness, he comprehended it and he loves you anyways. He loves you, and not only does he love you, He suffered all of the pains, sicknesses, infirmities, and descended into the darkness to be your light through the valley of the shadow of death. So that you wouldn't have to do it alone.
