25.5 X 25.5 Oil on Canvas
HEALED captures the profound moment when Christ restores sight to a blind man, symbolizing His unparalleled ability to bring clarity and redemption. This painting is not only a portrayal of physical healing but also a deeply personal reflection of my own journey. Before finding faith, I grappled with addiction for over a decade, experiencing a spiritual blindness that kept me distant from truth and honesty. Through my conversion to Christianity, I discovered the love and healing power of Christ, who, in His mercy, lifted the burdens that had weighed on me. This artwork stands as a testament to the transformation that is possible when we surrender our struggles to Him, acknowledging that true freedom can only be found in His embrace.
In addition to being a visual reminder of Christ’s power, HEALED is also a prayer for those facing similar battles. Particularly, it is a heartfelt intercession for men who are struggling with addiction, as I once did. The painting calls them to turn their gaze to Christ, who alone can provide lasting healing and a restored sense of purpose. May this work inspire hope and remind viewers that, no matter how deep the darkness, Christ's light can penetrate and bring about a profound and lasting change in their lives.
This piece employs high contrast to emphasize Christ's act of healing, drawing the viewer’s attention to the transformative moment. The warm color palette, reminiscent of the Blood of Christ, symbolizes the life and healing He brings to those who bow before Him in faith, petitioning for His blessing. Set deep within a cavernous hole, the scene conveys the experience of being trapped in addiction, sin, and self-deception. The background, painted with bold brushstrokes and rich impasto texture, reflects the chaos and darkness of this entrapment, while the hands and faces are rendered with a gentler, more detailed touch. Christ’s presence illuminates the scene, symbolizing that He alone can descend into our darkness, light the way, and show us the path to freedom.
