3 Nephi 11:23 “(23) Verily I say unto you, that whoso repenteth of his sins through your words, and desireth to be baptized in my name, on this wise shall ye baptize them—Behold, ye shall go down and stand in the water, and in my name shall ye baptize them.” John 14:6 “(6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Matthew 3:15-16 “(15) And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. (16) And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:” Christ is the way, he has always shown us by example. When Christ appeared to the Nephites in the Americas, after having shown himself to all of the people, He taught them the baptismal ordinance and gave them the power to administer it. Though it doesn’t say this, again, I imagine Christ entering the waters to show his people how it was to be down. This is my depiction of Him doing that.
