Holy Week 2025: Walking with Christ Through His Final Days
Share
As we approach Holy Week 2025, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all around the world are invited to reflect on the Savior’s final days on earth. Holy Week is a time to draw closer to Jesus Christ, remembering the profound acts of love, sacrifice, and redemption He demonstrated for all of humanity. This sacred week offers an opportunity to spiritually walk beside the Savior as He faced betrayal, suffering, and ultimately gave His life for us.
In this blog, we’ll explore how we can better understand and celebrate Holy Week 2025 by reflecting on the life and ministry of Jesus Christ during His final days.
The Significance of Holy Week in 2025: A Journey of Reflection
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, a day that marks Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Crowds waved palm branches and hailed Him as King, a scene that fulfilled ancient prophecies and set the stage for the week ahead. Yet, the events that followed would reveal the true nature of Christ’s mission, not as a political leader but as the Savior of the world.
Throughout the week, we remember key moments such as the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, Christ’s trial before Pilate, His crucifixion, and ultimately His glorious resurrection. Each moment invites us to ponder the significance of Christ's Atonement, which is the central act of His mission on earth.
In Elder Jeffrey R. Holland's powerful words, “The Atonement of Jesus Christ was the ultimate act of love. The most personal and intimate of all things, it was done for you, for me, for each of us.”
Palm Sunday: The Triumphal Entry
On Palm Sunday, we reflect on the moment when Jesus entered Jerusalem and was greeted by crowds shouting, “Hosanna!” This day serves as a reminder of Christ’s kingship, though His reign was not of this world. As we remember Christ’s entrance, we are reminded that He is indeed the King of Kings, and He humbly chose to serve, teach, and ultimately atone for us.
As Elder David A. Bednar shared, “Christ did not come to earth to be served but to serve, and He exemplified perfect love in doing so.” The humble entry into Jerusalem is an invitation for us to open our hearts to Christ and His teachings during Holy Week 2025.
Holy Week 2025: Remembering the Last Supper and Gethsemane
One of the most sacred moments of Holy Week is the Last Supper, when Christ instituted the sacrament and prepared His disciples for the events to come. This final meal was filled with symbolism as Christ expressed His love for His followers, teaching them about His body and blood and preparing them for the trials ahead. As members of the Church, we participate in the sacrament to remember Him each week, but during this week we reflect even more deeply on the significance of this ordinance.
Later in the week, we reflect on Christ's time in the Garden of Gethsemane, where He suffered for the sins of the world. The agony Christ experienced there is beyond human comprehension, but it was through His willingness to submit to the Father’s will that we can find peace and salvation.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf said, “In Gethsemane, Jesus took upon Himself our sins, our pains, our suffering, and He did so because of His eternal love for us.”
The Crucifixion and Resurrection: A Triumph Over Death
The culmination of Holy Week comes with Christ’s crucifixion and His miraculous resurrection. On Good Friday, we solemnly remember Christ’s suffering and death on the cross. This was the ultimate act of love, as He paid the price for our sins, offering us the gift of forgiveness and the opportunity to return to our Heavenly Father.
Elder M. Russell Ballard testified, “The Savior’s Resurrection provides us with hope, comfort, and strength. It affirms that there is life after death, and that all will be made right through Jesus Christ.”
Finally, Easter Sunday brings the joy of Christ’s victory over death. His resurrection assures us that death is not the end. Through Him, we are promised eternal life, and we can experience the peace that comes from knowing that Christ lives.
How to Walk with Christ During Holy Week 2025
As Holy Week 2025 approaches, it is important to find ways to draw closer to Christ and reflect on His Atonement. Here are some ways to spiritually walk with Him during this sacred week:
-
Daily Scripture Study: Reflect on the accounts of Christ’s final days in the Gospels. Consider reading about His triumphal entry, the Last Supper, His suffering in Gethsemane, His crucifixion, and His resurrection.
-
Sacrament: As you participate in the sacrament, think deeply about the Savior’s body and blood. Remember His ultimate sacrifice and commit to living in a way that honors His Atonement.
-
Prayers of Gratitude: Spend time in prayer, expressing your gratitude for Christ’s love and sacrifice. Seek His guidance and strive to follow His example in your daily life.
-
