The invitation is a simple one, Come and See. Christ promises not to turn away those who are looking for Him. And what an amazing promise it is: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” A simple statement with extraordinary depth.
Scott Sumner’s “Come and See” is much the same, an image simple in appearance but full of depth. His choice to use color sparingly is not only contemporary in appearance but keeps the focus on the figure of Christ. The same sparing use of color allows for the gradual discovery that Christ stands of the surface of a becalmed sea. He beckons us to join him just as He did Peter. All that remains is for to accept the invitation.
